Community Invited to Public Forum for Draft City-County Comprehensive Plan

Date of Release:
November 06, 2024

The community is invited to a public forum to review the draft of Comprehensive Plan jointly developed by McCracken County and the City of Paducah. This joint comprehensive plan will guide area development, redevelopment, and enhancement efforts over the next 10 to 20 years.

The public forum will be Wednesday, November 13 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Paducah-McCracken County Convention Center located at 415 Park Avenue. Attendees can view displays about the draft plan, hear a presentation at 5:45 p.m. by planning consultant Kendig Keast Collaborative, and visit with City and County leaders and staff. The slide presentation will be rolling on the monitors during the open house. Plus, the slides will be available to view online after the event.

McCracken County Judge Executive Craig Clymer said, “This has been a thorough process to review numerous factors that surround how McCracken County and Paducah will grow and change over the next two decades. With development opportunities and growth expected in areas especially near the former gaseous diffusion plant and the Triple Rail site, this plan will be quite valuable in helping to steer important land use discussions.”

Paducah Mayor George Bray said, “I encourage the community to attend the public meeting and provide feedback on this meaningful, long-range plan for Paducah and McCracken County. A Comprehensive Plan is not a plan that sits on a shelf. The information contained in the document considers how an area may grow and change over the next 10 to 20 years especially in terms of population, land use, housing, transportation, economy, and physical features. Plus, it provides steps that the local governments and public and private partners can take to work toward desired outcomes.”

Written comments will be accepted during the public forum and online through Sunday, November 17. To review the draft Comprehensive Plan and provide feedback through the online portal, click the link below.

The next steps in the process include a joint public hearing between the McCracken County Planning Commission and Paducah Planning Commission on November 19. Following the feedback from the City and County planning commissions, the plan will be considered for adoption by the McCracken County Fiscal Court and the Paducah Board of Commissioners with another public comment opportunity period.

In February 2023, the City of Paducah and McCracken County approved a 20-year interlocal cooperation agreement to establish a City/County Comprehensive Plan. Currently, each government agency has its own comprehensive plan which is required by the State to be updated every five years.
